Who runs private speedboat tours on Loch Lomond? Chris Scott-Park runs Portnellan Farm Speedboat Tours from the farm's own jetty on the south-east shore of the loch, near Gartocharn. Every tour is private and skippered. The Husky R8 takes up to 8 guests and prices are per boat.

Your local skipper shares stories from the loch and answers your questions. Tours start from 1 hour. They can include island visits, picnics, barbecues, drinks and lunch or dinner at loch-side venues. Choose a quick spin or a full day on the water.
Loch Lomond is the largest expanse of fresh water in the United Kingdom. It is 23 miles long and 5 miles wide and it straddles the divide between the Lowlands and the Highlands. The northern end resembles a Norwegian fjord, with steep craggy mountains rising from the water's edge. The southern half is broad, open and dotted with islands.

The boat
Our Husky R8 seats up to 8 passengers. It is unique on Loch Lomond. The sleek Scandinavian design makes it stand out. The aluminium hull and bow ladder make it easy to reach beaches and islands, even without a jetty. The 300 horsepower engine makes cruising on the water exhilarating.
Guests can relax at the rear on the large U-shaped sofa, protected by the windscreen, or sit on the L-shaped sofa in the bow.
Pick-ups
Every tour starts and finishes at our private jetty at Portnellan.
Collection by boat from Luss, Balmaha or Cameron House can usually be arranged. Please contact us for details. A £35 marina fee applies at Cameron House Marina.
Before you come
- It is a short walk of about 2 minutes from the car park to the jetty.
- Guests step from the jetty down onto the boat. The step is between about 30cm and 1m, depending on the level of the loch. There is a short ladder if the water is low.
- Bring warm and waterproof clothing and suitable footwear such as walking boots or trainers.
Getting here
Portnellan is a little off the beaten track. It is 10 minutes' drive from Balloch and within easy reach of Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh. Because of our rural location, a car is generally the easiest way to get here. Public transport can be difficult. Balloch has a train station. A short taxi ride covers the rest.

The skipper holds a commercially endorsed Powerboat Level 2.
- Insurance
Insurance is through Everard Insurance Brokers, with £5 million public liability cover.
- Life jackets
Life jackets are provided and must be worn on board.
About Chris
Chris has been running speedboat tours on Loch Lomond for over 10 years. He graduated from the University of Stirling with a degree in Environmental Science and Outdoor Education. He returned to Portnellan in 2013 and started the business the following year.
Chris has lived on the loch his whole life. He uses his local knowledge to give guests a personal service and an authentic experience. He is passionate about the area and enjoys meeting new people and sharing the best of Loch Lomond.

- How much does a tour cost?
- Prices run from £160 per boat for 1 hour. The 2026 charter prices are listed above, by length of tour. They exclude the online booking fee.
- Is food and drink included?
- No. On the tour and meal and the island picnic or barbecue tours, food and drink are not included. Pay the venue directly for a meal. Bring your own picnic or barbecue.
- How do I book?

- What happens if the weather is bad?
- Tours sometimes have to be rescheduled or cancelled because of the weather. The skipper decides on safety grounds. If the skipper cancels, you receive a full refund of any deposit paid or we agree another date.
- What if I need to cancel?
