About Loch Lomond

The largest expanse of fresh water in the United Kingdom, Loch Lomond is 23 miles long and 5 miles wide and straddles the divide between the Lowlands and Highlands of Scotland. The loch’s outstanding natural beauty, rich history and abundant wildlife have attracted visitors from across the world for generations. The northern end resembles a Norwegian Fjord, with steep craggy mountains rising dramatically from the waters edge, whilst the southern half is broad, open and dotted with islands. No matter where you are on Loch Lomond you are guaranteed spectacular views in every direction

Portnellan is located on the southern shore of Loch Lomond, within easy access of Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh however due to our rural location, getting here using public transport can be difficult and using a car is generally the easiest option. Free customer parking is provided. If you are travelling via public transport there is a train station in the nearby town of Balloch, from where you can get a taxi to drive you the 1o minutes to Portnellan. It is possible to arrange collection by boat from certain locations around the loch such as Cameron House, Balmaha and Luss. Please contact us in advance to organise this.

Combine the thrill of travelling at speed over open water and cruising slowly through the lochs many islands. Discover Loch Lomond from the comfort of a luxury speedboat including points of interest such as the Highland Boundary Fault Line, the Loch Lomond Golf Course and the ‘Narrows’.

Each island has its own story to tell. From ancient castles and clan burial grounds to beautiful forest walks and stunning view points (and even a pub), all the islands have something to offer.

90 minute or 2 hour Island Adventure

Inchcailloch or Inchmurrin?

The mystical Island of Inchcailloch is part of the Loch Lomond National Nature Reserve and steeped in local history and tradition. One of the most popular islands on the loch due to its outstanding natural beauty, the island is often described as the jewel in Loch Lomond’s crown. Our 90 minute tour allows plenty of time for a tour of the loch, followed by a short stop to explore the beach and forest walks. If you’d like to visit the ancient church ruins and clan burial ground, or walk up the hill for breathtaking panoramic views of the Highlands, we would recommend the 2 hour option.

Your second option is Inchmurrin, the largest of Loch Lomond’s Islands. Home to the Scott family for almost 100 years who, alongside their traditional family farm, run a charming pub and restaurant. It’s the perfect setting to enjoy a local beer or a dram of Loch Lomond whisky whilst admiring the magnificent loch views. If it’s a short stop for a drink you’re after, the 90 minute tour is ideal. If you’d rather take your time and perhaps enjoy a light bite from the islands kitchen we would recommend opting for a 2 hour experience.

3 hour Island Hopping Adventure

We always say on this tour “There is no bad option, they’re both just different.” but if you really can’t choose between them then not to worry. Our 3 hour Island Hopping Tour combines a tour of the loch with a visit to both Inchcailloch and Inchmurrin, giving you a true flavour of all Loch Lomond has to offer.

Arrive in style at one of the many loch side or restaurants and dine on the finest local produce whilst enjoying panoramic loch views. The perfect way to celebrate a special occasion or just a fun afternoon out with family or friends, the speedboat tour & meal combines stunning scenery with the best of Scotland’s world renowned food and drink.

Please note that prices do not include food and drink which should be paid directly to the venue.

2 hour Speedboat Tour & Meal at Inchmurrin Island

Enjoy a short speedboat tour of the loch before arriving at Inchmurrin, for light lunch or dinner in the islands restaurant before stepping back on board for the return journey.

2.5 hour or 3 hour Speedboat Tour & Meal

Combine a speedboat tour of Loch Lomond with a stop for lunch or dinner at one of the many loch-side restaurants. Choose from Inchmurrin Island, Lodge on Loch Lomond, The Clansman at Rowardennan or the Boat House at Cameron House Marina*

*£35 marina fee applies

3.5 hour or 4 hour Speedboat Tour & Meal

A longer charter allows you to explore more of Loch Lomond on the boat and gives you the opportunity to travel from one end of the loch to the other for a meal at Ardlui Marina, or if you’d rather perhaps visit the beautiful island of Inchcailloch for a walk before or after your meal.

What better way to see Loch Lomond than by cruising from pub to pub by speedboat? With a variety of loch-side pubs and bars to choose from this is a truly unique experience perfect for special occasions and especially popular with stag and hen do’s, birthday parties and corporate incentive groups.

Please note that prices do not include food and drink which should be paid directly to the venue.

2.5 hour Mini Speedboat Pub Tour
A taster for the real thing but perfect if you’re on a budget or a bit tight for time, the mini speedboat pub tour allows time for two 30 minute stops. A typical itinerary might include drinks at the Lodge on Loch Lomond and Inchmurrin Island.

3 hour Speedboat Pub Tour
The 3 hour speedboat pub tour is one of our most popular trips. You have the option to make 3 short pub stops or 2 more relaxed stops with a bit longer on the water. Our usual stops are The Oak Tree Inn, Lodge on Loch Lomond and Inchmurrin Island.

4 hour Speedboat Pub Tour
The 4 hour speedboat pub tour gives you a bit more flexibility in terms of timing and the option to stop for a meal at one of the pubs. If you are not having a meal, then there should be time for 4 stops. If you decide to have a meal at one of the pubs this would reduce to 3.

This tour is becoming ever more popular as people look for a day out with a difference. Enjoy a speedboat tour on Loch Lomond before being dropped on an island for a picnic or BBQ on the beach. If you’d like to order any of our home grown organic beef (steaks, burgers or sausages) for your BBQ just let us know when you book.

Island Picnic / BBQ

Escaping to an island on Loch Lomond for a picnic or BBQ is something special. The feeling that you’re really away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, surrounded by nature and the most beautiful scenery. You’ll hear birds singing in the trees and waves lapping on the beach. You may even catch a glimpse of the deer that inhabit these enchanting islands.

These tours can be fully customised so whether your just looking for a speedboat transfer out to an island or looking to make a day of it then please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss your requirements. Please note that the price does not include food and drink.

A new and exciting addition to our range of speedboat trips, our Signature Tour takes in the very best that Loch Lomond has to offer. This experience is based around the type of day we would spend with our friends or family if they were to visit. We start the tour from our private farm jetty on Portnellan with introductions and a short safety briefing before boarding the Husky for a half day excursion on one of Scotland’s most iconic lochs.

Once clear of the bay, a short blast across open water brings us to The Highland Boundary Fault Line and the gateway to the Highlands of Scotland. As we venture further north we pass the impressive Ross Dhu House, seat of the clan Colquhoun and now home to the famous Loch Lomond Golf Club. A tranquil cruise through the islands that make up ‘The Narrows’ allows time to fully appreciate one of the most scenic areas on Loch Lomond and learn a little about the local history. Keep your eyes peeled for the Highland Cows of Inchtavannoch as we pass.

A mile or so north of the islands lies the picturesque village of Luss, nestled in the shadow of Bienn Dubh, where we will make our first stop. The village alone is worth a visit but for those so inclined there is the added attraction of the new distillery where guests can pick up a local dram.

Setting off on the boat again we head even further north and the landscape begins to change from rolling lowland hills to rugged highland beauty. The mountains rise steeply from the loch shore and tower above much like a Norwegian fjord. Having fully appreciated the breathtaking scenery we turn the boat south and make for the Island of Inchmurrin, home to the Scott family for nearly 100 years. Alongside their traditional family farm, the Scott’s run a charming restaurant on the island, the perfect setting for a bite to eat and the chance to sample some delicious local produce.

After a hearty lunch we board the Husky once more and cruise along the length of the Fault Line to Inchcailloch, a mystical island with a wealth of history. A short walk up the hill will take you to one of the best view points on Loch Lomond and the ruins of an ancient church and burial ground used by local clans; the MacGregors and MacFarlanes. Once lunch has been walked off we depart the island and make the short journey back to Portnellan to finish the tour where it began.

All of our tours are fully customisable and can be tailored to your exact requirements, so whether you are looking for a unique and authentic experience for your clients or an exhilarating event for colleagues we can help create a day out on Loch Lomond that’s sure to be remembered. Highlights include;

  • High End Luxury Sports Boat
  • Enchanting Island Visits
